Watch & Learn: Creating Water & Waves with Resin
With the ability to achieve translucent and high gloss effects, resin is a perfect material to think bout when pondering water and waves. We haven't talked a lot about this material in the past, so we thought it might be fun to showcase three different takes on a water theme before the month concluded.
In the video above, UK-based designer and maker Alicja Mazur creates an incredible seascape oak coffee table. We were particularly impressed to see how she adds and manipulates the white resin with a heat gun near the end to create the look of bubbling seafoam and surf.
In this video, Sandy creates a Caribbean wave bowl by pouring resin over a solid form (an upside-down platter) to create a lacey wave effect. She uses a few drops of India ink to color the resin (turquoise, teal, and blue) and acrylic ice crystals to add texture. Be sure to check out the link to the materials she uses in the video comment section.
This demonstration from Woodworking - Arts & Crafts is another stellar example of how epoxy resin can be used to create stunning water effects within a piece of furniture. We enjoyed watching this beautiful "ocean table" come to life in this video. Don't let the soothing music and ocean wave sound effect put you to sleep before you can see the final result at the end. The tiny people, boats, and palm trees complete this seascape!
